How do I measure Google Ads conversions?
Linking purchases and form conversions to Ads with GTM; Which events mean what?
To bid accurately on Google Ads, conversions must be measured accurately. Recommended way for Fladrio stores: Connect GTM and manage Ads conversion tags from within GTM.
On the ads side
- 1
Create new conversion action from Google Ads → Goals → Conversions.
- 2
Select website conversion (purchase, lead, etc.).
- 3
Take note of the conversion ID and tag.
On GTM side
- 1
Verify that GTM is installed and active in the store panel.
- 2
Add Google Ads Conversion Tracking tag on GTM.
- 3
Enter the conversion ID/tag.
- 4
Link the trigger to the correct page (order success page, thank you screen, etc.).
- 5
Test with preview and publish.
Which conversion should you measure?
- ✓Purchase — checkout success page (most critical ecommerce conversion)
- ✓Add to cart / initiate checkout — helpful events to understand the funnel
- ✓Form / request — thank you screen visibility in demo or contact forms
Tip
The acknowledgment block of request forms on Fladrio.com carries the class .lead-success; Form transformation can be set up with the Item Visibility trigger on the GTM. Using a similar fixed selector on your own store theme pages makes measurement easier.
Warning
Do not count the same conversion with both a Google tag and a third script. Check in the conversion setting whether Ads counts “once per conversion” or “per transaction”.
Use with Meta
You can run Google Ads and Meta ads at the same time. A common and clean distinction is to manage the Google side with GTM and the Meta side with Meta Pixel + CAPI in Digital Marketing.
